Pipe Bursting

Sewer Repair That’s Faster, Cheaper, Cleaner!

What is Pipe Bursting?

Pipe bursting is the process by which we intentionally break apart an existing old and failed pipe while simultaneously pulling a new one through, essentially installing a new pipe as we split the old. Pipe bursting  can be used to replace water lines, drain lines, sewer lines, etc. Pipe bursting works for pipe diameters as small as 0.5″, all the way up to 18″; and in some cases, the pipe diameter can even be enlarged as the new, bigger pipe is pulled through while the old smaller one is burst.

Pipe bursting is a great technology to use when a pipe is starting to collapse or is no longer circular. Besides reducing the destruction of your home or yard, an added benefit is that the pipe diameter can remain the same or in some cases even be enlarged.

The pipe bursting method can split clay, cast iron, cement, transite and ductile iron pipes. This technique can be used to replace lines under yards, sidewalks, driveways, homes, highways and other structures that make traditional digging expensive or impossible.

The process for both water and sewer lines is similar.

Here’s how it is done.

  1. We excavate 2 access holes: one serves as a start/entrance pit and the second is an exit pit.
  2. We then send a cable through the damaged pipe.  The cable is connected to a hydraulic puller.  The other end of the cable is connected to a cone shaped bursting head that splits the old pipe. The new pipe is attached to the bursting head.
  3. As the hydraulic ram pulls the cable, the bursting head splits or breaks the existing pipe and pushes it out of the exit pit, leaving the new pipe in its place.

Which would you rather have? Two holes in your yard, or a long trench?
